Popscars #1

Holy Shit. Popscars #1 is the latest release form Sumerian Comics. This is one of those books that I can promise is not going to be for everyone but if you are like me this is a book that fits perfectly in your wheelhouse. Popscars came on my radar from a ton of posts on social media with people showing off the cover and even some cosplaying as one of the main characters Pinky and I’m glad it had that grass roots type of marketing because I am not sure this would have been on my radar otherwise.

But let’s get to the premise of this book, this book follows three main storylines, and while I don’t think there are any huge spoilers for this first issue going over the plot itself may spoil some of the “reveals.” The first storyline follows a producer of a cult horror movie franchise, who seems to have double crossed his old partner to take over the rights to the franchise. The second is about Pinky, the ski masked axe wheeled character on the cover, who we learn is the producers daughter. The third and final storyline is about the partner who has been double crossed. He stops pinky from killing her dad and they get together with the “Freak Crew” to really screw over her old man.

The art fits this book perfectly and has enough grit to smooth out any rough corner. The colors really add that extra pop to make this book extremely visually pleasing and I always like when bright pinks are used in these types of books.

While I can’t say this is for everyone if you want a gritty revenge story that is going to have some cult classic horror movie references in it, I would really recommend grabbing this book. I’ll give it a 4.1 / 5 stars.
Are you checking out Popscars? I’d love to hear what you think about it!
