Is the KOBO Libra Color Your Next eReader?
With all the buzz about moving away from Amazon and the Kindle, I decided to review my current eReader: the Kobo Libra Color. Priced at $219.99, this device features a 7-inch color screen and offers a $69.99 optional stylus for note-taking.
I’ve had the Kobo Libra Color for three months, spending over 100 hours reading and finishing around 15 books. It’s become a reliable companion for my reading and notetaking needs.
Let’s dive into the pros and cons, followed by a detailed review to see if this eReader could be the perfect fit for you.
Pros:
- Physical Buttons: Tired of unreliable swiping? The physical buttons make navigation much easier.
- Libby Integration: Perfect for library lovers! Borrowed books sync seamlessly to the device, and you can even browse the library catalog directly.
- Color Display: Ideal for graphic novels and illustrated content, even on a smaller screen.
- Activity Tracker: If you’re a stats nerd like me, you’ll enjoy tracking your reading habits and progress.
- Note-to-Text Feature: Great for quick notes, even if your handwriting isn’t the best—mine is barely legible, but the device still captures 95% of my input accurately.
Cons:
- Battery Life: While not an issue for me, its 2–3 day charging cycle might feel short compared to other devices.
- Kobo Store: The selection isn’t bad but can be confusing with multiple versions of the same book.
- Limited Indie Titles: Many indie authors seem to favor Kindle exclusivity, though this trend may change.
From my experience, the Kobo Libra Color shines in versatility and usability. While it’s not the ultimate note-taking device, it works well enough for quick annotations. Its portability and robust features make it a strong contender as a Kindle alternative.
